AAVOS Newsletter Q4 2026: Is There a Fidas Killer?

Q4 brings a lot of new instruments. Ultrafine particles are moving into the new EU Air Quality Directive, a new optical PM monitor is challenging the market leader, Aerosol Magee has renewed its full carbon line-up, and we have a new partner for stack and filter monitoring. Below you'll find the highlights, plus our year-end offers.

🔬 AVL UltraFine Particle Monitor — Be Quick, Last Demo Units

    Last demo units

If you would like to test the AVL UFPM, we have one or two demo units left. Be quick if you want to get your hands on one.

The AVL UltraFine Particle Monitor™ precisely measures ultrafine particle number concentrations in ambient air from 10 nm, fully compliant with EN 16976. As an ACTRIS-compliant instrument, it supports air quality monitoring networks with reliable performance, fast response (< 1 s) and minimal maintenance. A timely tool now that ultrafine particles are part of the EU Air Quality Directive 2024/2881.

🏁 Acoem Met One OPX 1025 — Is There a Fidas Killer?

    New in the Benelux

Is there such a thing as a Fidas killer? We'll let you be the judge. The OPX 1025 is now designated by the US EPA as Federal Equivalent Method for PM10, and Class III FEM for PM2.5 and PM10-2.5, and sets a new standard in continuous particulate matter monitoring.

The OPX 1025 Optical PM Mass Monitor delivers continuous, real-time PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10 and coarse-fraction readings in one instrument — an essential tool for ambient air quality networks and industrial compliance. Sheath-flow optics keep maintenance low, and the LED comes with a 10-year warranty.

Available in the Benelux now. Need MCERTS and/or TÜV for regulatory use? Those certifications are expected by the end of 2027.

    🧪 The All-New TCA09, CASS and DRI 2015 Series 2

    News from Aerosol Magee

In the lab — DRI 2015 Series 2, the most advanced laboratory instrument for OC/EC and BrC. Cost-effective, protocol-flexible analysis of organic, elemental and brown carbon. Multi-wavelength optical analysis enables enhanced aerosol characterisation and source apportionment, essential for air quality, climate and health studies.

Already have an Aethalometer? Add the TCA09. It measures total carbon every 10 minutes and, combined with your AE33 or AE36, gives you online OC/EC and a full carbonaceous aerosol fingerprint.

You like the complete set-up? CASS is the new standard for complete carbonaceous aerosol speciation: TCA09 + AE36/AE36s reporting BC, BrC, TC, EC, OC and source apportionment. No gas, no glass, no catalyst.

    👋 Farewell to the AE31

    End of an era

The AE31 was great and never disappointed, but AE31 filter tapes are now depleted. It's time to say farewell — and time for something better and new. Discover all Black Carbon systems available today.

👋 A Fond Farewell to the AE51, Our Faithful Friend

    End of an era

The AethLabs microAeth® AE51 is reaching end of life. New AE51 sales ended in 2024, and three more milestones follow on 15 June 2027: the end of service and support, the end of microAethCOM software support, and the last sales of AE51 filter strips.

The good news: from this October, AethLabs introduces new pricing for the AL30 and AL80 and an AE51 trade-in programme. Still using an AE51? We'll gladly show you the best way forward.

🏙️ Black Carbon at City Level — Affordable, Dual-Wavelength

    City-level monitoring

Want to measure black carbon at city level, at an affordable price? The Acoem C-12 Black Carbon Monitor measures at two wavelengths (370 and 880 nm) for both black and brown carbon. Its low 1 L/min flow lets it run on a small solar panel, with no shelter needed.

The C-12 won the jury prize at the 2023 AIRLAB Microsensors Challenge.

📄 BTEX Calibration Down to ppt Levels — New CHROMATOTEC® Paper

    From the literature

How do you reliably calibrate a BTEX analyser at trace levels? A new paper in Microchemical Journal, co-authored by CHROMATOTEC®, shows how to dynamically generate benzene, toluene and ethylbenzene gaseous standards from low ppt to ppb, using custom permeation tubes and a flow-sucking system, with fast characterisation by on-line gas chromatography.

A practical read for anyone working on QA/QC of VOC monitoring in networks, research stations or industrial sites.
